The Hand Built Advantage:

As an experienced wheel builder and rider, I know the difference a pair of hand built wheels can make to your time on the bike:

  1. 1) Performance and Reliability

An exhaustive and time-consuming manual build process ensures the components used for your wheel build reach their maximum tolerances, perform at their best, and continue to do so for as long as possible. Every wheelset is supplied with a unique Birth Certificate detailing critical dimensions and final tolerances. Using the cycling industries’ finest precision tools to measure every wheel is critical to guaranteeing their long-term reliability and performance.

  2. 2) Serviceability

Every component has been selected with serviceability and maintenance in mind. Hand built wheels are not disposable, they are an investment which will stand the test of time. A good quality hub is at the heart of every wheel build, and I only use standard wheel building components which can be easily replaced in the event of an accident.

  3. 3) Fit for Purpose

The components and specification of each pair of wheels is matched to the individual rider. Your physique, riding habits, performance and maintenance requirements are carefully considered so that your wheels can deliver on your cycling aspirations, are fit for your intended purpose, and do not let you down.

  4. 4) Aesthetics

Everyone has their own style and bikes offer a way to express that. A hand built wheel is inherently customisable and can be as unique as the individual rider, so if you have a specific look you’re aiming to achieve, get in touch to discuss brightly coloured hubs, custom decals or different spoke and nipple combinations which can all be used to ensure your wheels match your bike and your personality.

  5. 5) The Bespoke Experience

We all want to feel special sometimes. To know that a pair of wheels has been conceived and laboured over by a skilled craftsman, just for you, is a rare and rewarding feeling. The process of creating a pair of hand built wheels together is unique, and forms a relationship that can last for years to come. As your wheel builder, I will always be on hand to offer personalised servicing and maintenance.

Sharp Precision Wheels is focussed on a time-consuming manual build process, appropriate component selection, and the use of high precision measuring equipment to deliver hand built bike wheels of the highest standard.

I’ve built hundreds, if not thousands of wheels for riders just starting out, right through to Olympic medallists and Tour de France winners. Each pair is built with the same precision and attention to detail and stems from an in depth technical understanding of what it takes to build a good wheel.

Summer Holiday 2022: The workshop will be closed for wheel building 4th – 15th July 2022 to allow for a short holiday. During this time the best method of contact is to email ben@sharpwheels.co.uk.

Current Lead Times: Approximately 2-3 weeks for “stock” combination wheel builds where parts are in stock or readily available. 4-5 weeks for “bespoke” combinations.

As 2022 progresses, the cycle trade continues to suffer from severe supply chain disruption as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, an unprecedented increase in demand, and the continued effects of Brexit. This has made delivering a custom product highly challenging, and I will always do my best to advise at the time of ordering if there is any expected delay to your build caused by parts shortages. Some manufacturers have managed to improve their supply better than others, but it is always best to wait for the right product, which may involve pre-ordering ASAP.

Workshop Opening Hours: The Puttenham workshop is open 5 days a week, from 9am – 6.30pm. If you’re planning a workshop visit, please call in advance. Saturday/Sunday visits, or early morning/late evenings are possible by appointment.
